Peaceful protest democratic right of PTI: Barrister Saif

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government spokesperson Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif on Monday said that peaceful protest is the democratic right of all political parties. Reacting to recent statements made by federal ministers Khawaja Asif and Ahsan Iqbal, Barrister Saif criticized the federal government for denying permission to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to hold a public meeting in Islamabad, calling it a “lame excuse.”
In a statement issued from here , the KP government spokesperson said that the federal government was afraid of PTI’s protests. He reiterated that the PTI’s protests across the country will persist until the release of the party’s founding chairman and former prime minister, Imran Khan, from jail.
“The protests will continue until the false cases against Imran Khan are dismissed and he is released, no matter how long the struggle takes,” said Mr Saif.
He accused the federal government of attempting to create unrest, likening it to the violence seen during the Model Town incident.
Barrister Saif also took aim at federal ministers, stating, “Khawaja Asif, who lost the general election to a PTI female candidate, reached the National Assembly through Form 47.
If he has any integrity, he should resign.” He further criticized Ahsan Iqbal, accusing him of politicizing the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), while ignoring the economic challenges facing the country under the current government.
