FCW win 12th SBBWU Inter-College trophy as Mehkan of City Gulbahar declared best athlete

Frontier College for Women clinched the overall trophy by securing 17 points while Mehkan Yousaf of Girls College City Gulbahar declared as best athlete for the year-2024 in the 12th Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Inter-College Games, which concluded on Thursday at the University premises here.
Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University claimed 15 points by taking second position and City Girls College Gulbahar got third position.
Adviser to the Chief Minister on Sports and Youth Affairs Syed Fakhre Jahan was the chief guest on this occasion. Vice Chancellor Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Professor Dr. Safia Ahmad, President Sports Committee Professor Aliya Mustafa, Principal Yaka Ghund Girls College, Mohmand District, Miss Rabia Sikander Vice President and Principal Sports Committee, Directress Sports Miss Najma Qazi, Shazia Ayub, Gul Sanobar, Sadia Gul, Uzma, Roheena, Miss Huma, Miss Salma Faiz, Deputy Director Sports SBBWU Miss Mariyyah Samin, players and spectators were also present.
Speaking on this occasion, Fakhre Jahan lauded the performance of the women players who excelled at national and international levels.
He said like male players it is a very clear policy of the government to equally treat female players as well and support them, both financially and facilities wise.
He said the provincial government will give interest-free loans up to Rs. 10 million to provide employment opportunities to the youth and earn their livelihood in a dignified way. Providing equal facilities to women in the field of sports and promoting female sports are among the priorities of the government, he said.
He said that sports create the spirit of courage and curiosity to stand on the field, which is necessary not only for men but also for women. He said an U16 talent hunt program is being started in the province very soon and talented players would get a monthly stipend.
This selection will be made on merit without any preference or disfavor, in which the government will provide support and sponsorship to the selected talented players in future.
Regarding the government’s initiatives for the youth, he said that the government is starting the Ehsaas youth employment scheme for the youth, in which girls can also get an interest-free loan from Rs. 1 million up to Rs. 10 million for any business in the form of a cluster.
He said that our aim is to work on youth development, in which we are taking effective steps and providing sports facilities for women in Peshawar and other districts. He said that a team will be sent to review the repair of the university grounds.
He said that the provincial government is taking practical steps for the promotion of sports and now the sports fields will be settled again.
He said the playing fields would be developed accordingly for the female players at SBBWU.
He said that to find the future legends, a talent hunt program will be started for this. In the end, he announced a reward of Rs. 20,000 would be given to the winner team, Rs. 10,000 for the runners-up and Rs. 5000 in cash prize for the third position while Rs. 20,000 cash prize for the player of the Games Miss Mehkan of City Girls College Gulbahar who grabbed four gold medal in the athletic event including 100m, discuss throw, 200m, 400m, and teamed up for 4X100m relay for winning gold medal.
In her welcome address VC SBBWU Professor Dr. Safia Ahmad highlighted the aim and objective of the Directorate of Sports SBBWU. She said the students of various colleges and other universities benefit from the sports facilities and often women’s sports competitions are organized in the same university, which is commendable. She also requested Syed Fakhre Jahan for taking steps in making the playing fields inside the University playable.
In the totally played seven events only 8 colleges, out of a total of 25 colleges affiliated with the University took part, the rest did not send their teams despite contact by the University administration.
In Netball SBBWU won Gold, City Gulbahar Girls College Peshawar got silver while Frontier College won the brown medal. Similarly, in Badminton Frontier College got first, Bacha Khan Girls College got second and Benazir Bhutto Women’s University got third position, In Table Tennis Frontier College won first place, Bacha Khan Girls College won second place, City Girls College won third place, District City College won gold, City Gulbahar College won silver, SBWU won bronze medal in cycling. In the volleyball event, Frontier College won the first position, SBBWU won the second position and Bacha Khan Girls Degree College won the third position. In athletics, City College Gulbahar won gold, Frontier College silver, while GGDC Gulshan Rehman claimed bronze medal.
