FBR making efforts to broaden tax base: Aurangzeb

ISLAMABAD
A delegation of Pakistan Business Council led by its Chairman Shabbir Diwan called on Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb at Finance Division Monday.
Minister of State for Finance and Revenue Ali Pervez Malik, Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue Malik Amjed Zubair Tiwana also attended the meeting.
The delegation appreciated the ongoing efforts of government and discussed the Federal Budget 2024-25 with the Finance Minister. They also presented specific suggestions and tax proposals for consideration.
The Finance Minister acknowledged and thanked the Pakistan Business Council for its insights. He assured that their recommendations presented by the Council will be considered in the finalization of the budget to whatever extent possible.
The Minister also highlighted the FBR’s ongoing efforts aimed at broadening the tax base and bringing retailers in tax net.
He assured that decisions would be made through mutual consultation to ensure favorable outcomes for both the public and the business community.
Imran moves SC for early hearing of his appeal plea against his disqualification
ISLAMABAD, June 24 (Online): PTI founder Imran Khan has filed petition in Supreme Court (SC) seeking early hearing of his appeal plea against his disqualification.
Ali Zafar counsel for Imran Khan filed the petition in SC on Monday.
The petition said that Imran Khan is former Prime Minister (PM) and founder of the largest political party of the country. Proceedings is under way to remove the petitioner as head of the party after having been deseated by Election Commission (EC).
The petition further said that cases are pending in Islamabad and Lahore High Courts against EC orders. The proceedings in high courts is not moving ahead being the case pending hearing in SC.
The petitioner took the plea that due to these cases the founder of PTI is not being elected as member of assembly. The petitioner cannot contest by polls due to pending appeal plea.
The petitioner prayed the court to fix appeal plea of Imran Khan against his disqualification for hearing early.
It is pertinent to mention here Imran Khan had filed appeal plea against his disqualification in SC on January 10, 2024.
