62nd national badminton championship begins in Peshawar

More than 250 male and female players from across the country are participating in the 62nd National Badminton Championship, which has commenced in Peshawar

The 62nd National Badminton Championship has officially begun in Peshawar, featuring the participation of over 250 male and female players from all over Pakistan. A total of 13 teams are taking part in the championship, including Pakistan WAPDA, Pakistan Army, Pakistan Railways, Pakistan Police, SNGPL, HEC, as well as teams from Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Murad Ali and Pakistan WAPDA’s Mahoor Shehzad will be defending their respective titles in the championship. Competitions are being held in Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles categories.
The championship was formally inaugurated by Director General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Tashfeen Haider. The opening ceremony was attended by CEO Buraq Ali Haider Babakhel, Assistant Director Finance Shah Faisal, Senior Vice President of the Pakistan Badminton Federation Tayyab Sohail, Secretary General Raja Asghar, President Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Badminton Association Bilal Khan, Secretary General Mian Sadaqat Shah, renowned singer and event ambassador Sehrish Khan, along with other distinguished guests.
Addressing the opening ceremony, the chief guest DG Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tashfeen Haider welcomed the players and officials. He said that hosting the National Badminton Championship after 27 years is a positive and encouraging development. He added that organizing such a major national event reflects that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is a peaceful province and its people are peace-loving.
He further stated that the Sports Department aims to continue organizing national-level events along with provincial activities to provide more opportunities to athletes and help them further improve their performance. He assured that all possible facilities are being provided to ensure players compete in a conducive and high-quality environment and fully enjoy the event.
On this occasion, Buraq Builders CEO Ali Haider Babakhel said that it is a matter of pride for them to support the hosting of a national event in Peshawar. He stated that the players are their guests and no effort will be spared in extending hospitality to them. He emphasized that their objective is to play a significant role in promoting sports in the province and that they will continue to support such events in the future as well.
In the Women’s Team Event of the 62nd National Badminton Championship in Peshawar, the WAPDA team delivered an outstanding performance by defeating Islamabad 3-0 to qualify for the semifinals. Meanwhile, in the Men’s Team Event, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa defeated Pakistan Railways to secure a place in the next round.
