181 processions, 965 majalis planned in Islamabad during Muharram

A total of 181 religious processions and 965 Majalis are scheduled to take place in Islamabad during the holy month of Muharram, as Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Mohsin Naqvi was briefed during a high-level security meeting on Wednesday.
In preparation, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi chaired a high-level meeting to review security and administrative arrangements, emphasizing the government’s commitment to ensuring peace, sectarian harmony, and the safety of citizens during this sensitive period.
The meeting, held at the Ministry of Interior, brought together senior officials including Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, the Additional Secretary Interior, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, ADCG, DIGs, all SPs, and Assistant Commissioners. The Deputy Commissioner and DIG Islamabad gave a comprehensive briefing on preparations made by the administration and law enforcement agencies.
Interior Minister Naqvi directed authorities to enforce strict checking at all entry and exit points of processions and religious gatherings.
A central control room has been set up at Islamabad Safe City to monitor events in real time through advanced surveillance systems. In addition, a multi-layered security plan has been finalized, covering all venues and procession routes. Officials confirmed that geo-tagging of Imambargahs, Majalis locations, and routes has already been completed to facilitate coordinated security efforts.
The minister underscored the need for close monitoring of social media, declaring zero tolerance for any provocative content or hate speech that could disturb public order. Digital surveillance teams have been tasked with actively tracking online platforms to prevent the spread of inflammatory material.
Acknowledging the extended hours and challenges faced by security personnel, Naqvi ordered that duty rosters be arranged in shifts to ensure proper rest for staff, along with provisions for food and refreshments during their deployment. He instructed all agencies to maintain high levels of coordination and vigilance, warning that any lapse could be exploited by anti-state elements.
Naqvi reiterated that foolproof security is non-negotiable and urged full implementation of the code of conduct. He called for continued engagement with religious scholars from all sects to foster unity and prevent misunderstandings during Muharram. Appealing to the public, he asked citizens to uphold mutual respect and religious tolerance throughout the month.
Officials confirmed that a detailed security audit has already been completed, and law enforcement agencies are fully mobilized to ensure peaceful observance of Muharram in the federal capital.
