SC grants bail to an accused in rape case

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has approved bail plea of one Shakil accused in rape case against surety bonds of Rs 2 lac. A two members bench of SC presided over by Justice Hassan Rizvi took up bail petition for hearing Wednesday. Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan inquired during the hearing of the case Rape incident had occurred one and half years back. Why the trial could not be started since `one and half year. The state counsel told the court the accused committed rape with an 18 years old girl. Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan inquired upon it the accused is charged with raping the girl twice. How did the rape incident occur in the presence of father and mother in the home. One year and five months have passed. Trial has not been started. Challan of the case was filed after 8 months. The court while accepting bail plea of the accused Shakil against surety bonds of Rs 2 lac due to non launching of trial and late filing of challan ordered to release him.
