PEC Marks Independence Day with nationwide tree plantation drive

The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) commemorated the country’s Independence with a nationwide tree plantation drive, urging engineers across Pakistan to contribute towards a greener and healthier environment. The initiative sought to celebrate the national occasion with a powerful message of environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
As part of the event, Chairman PEC Engr. Waseem Nazir, along with Vice Chairman Punjab PEC Engr. Dr. Sohail Aftab Qureshi, PEC GB Members, and PEC officials, planted a tree at the PEC regional office in Lahore. Similarly, at PEC HQs Islamabad, Vice Chairman Sindh Engr. Mukhtar Sheikh, along with Registrar PEC Engr. Khadim Hussain Bhatti, members of the governing body, and PEC officials, planted a tree during the flag-hoisting ceremony.
In regional offices across Pakistan, PEC officials planted trees under the directions of Chairman PEC Engr. Waseem Nazir. These activities took place at PEC Regional Offices in Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar, Multan, Sukkur, Abbottabad, Loralai, and Muzaffarabad, where engineers joined hands to contribute to a greener future.
Chairman PEC Engr. Waseem Nazir, in his message, said, “Let’s make Pakistan greener – one tree at a time. Our engineers have the expertise, vision, and dedication to drive change, and planting a tree today is a gift that will serve generations to come.” He emphasized that the engineering fraternity must lead the charge in safeguarding natural resources and fostering sustainability.
PEC also announced prizes to recognize the outstanding contributions of engineers. According to PEC, engineers from workplaces, campuses, and communities are encouraged to plant trees as a demonstration of their commitment to combating climate change and enhancing Pakistan’s green cover. Participants are asked to take high-definition photographs of their plantation activities and submit them through an online platform, which will be used to recognize the top three engineers at the national level and the top three winners from each region. Awards and cash prizes are planned to acknowledge their dedication and efforts.
The PEC tree plantation drive aligns with the council’s vision of “Leading Engineering Forward,” integrating environmental awareness into national celebrations. By linking Independence Day with a climate-positive initiative, PEC aspires to inspire long-term commitment to a cleaner, greener Pakistan.
