Opposition MPs concerned over worsening security in KP

Opposition lawmaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Madina Afridi raised concerns about the worsening law and order situation in the province. Speaking on the floor of the house, she emphasized that maintaining peace and safeguarding the lives and property of citizens is the government’s responsibility. She also highlighted the lack of educational facilities for women in the merged districts, calling for immediate attention to this pressing issue.
In his address, government member Tariq Aryani acknowledged the persistent threat of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and urged a collective effort to restore peace. He specifically pointed to the ongoing operation in Bajaur, which has forced many people to flee their homes, and expressed opposition to any further operations or drone attacks in the province.
Meanwhile, Provincial Law Minister Aftab Alam criticized the opposition’s stance on the government’s actions. He expressed dissatisfaction with the speeches of opposition members, specifically addressing the criticism regarding the regime change. Alam accused the opposition of taking unconstitutional steps, particularly regarding the 26th Constitutional Amendment, and claimed that the Election Commission was acting in favor of the opposition coalition PDM.
The session brought to light several critical issues facing the province, from security challenges to constitutional matters, with members from both sides of the aisle voicing their concerns.
