Muzzammil Aslam refutes Shehbaz Sharif’s claim on IMF Program

Advisor to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister on Finance, Muzzammil Aslam, has dismissed Shehbaz Sharif’s claim of securing Pakistan’s last IMF program, calling it misleading.
Aslam pointed out that when Pakistan obtained an IMF program in July 2024, Sharif claimed it would be the last. However, the country has now secured another— a 28-month Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF)— alongside the existing 37-month Extended Fund Facility (EFF).
He stressed that while the first review has been completed and a staff-level agreement reached, the government failed to secure any relief for the common people. “No concessions were provided in taxes, real estate, or power tariffs, leaving the public to bear the brunt of economic challenges,” he remarked.
Aslam further stated that under Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership, from 2022 to date, his government has secured four IMF programs, contradicting earlier claims.
