KP moves to adopt Punjab’s financial management model aimed at transparency

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Arshad Ayub, chaired a high-level meeting on Wednesday to review progress on the Financial Integrated Management System (FIMS). The meeting, held in Peshawar, was attended by the Secretary Local Government, senior officials, and representatives from the World Bank.
During the session, the Secretary Local Government presented a detailed progress report on the decisions made in the previous meeting. The system, which has shown success in Punjab, is now being introduced in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a pilot project.
To ensure smooth implementation, the Minister directed officials to form a dedicated team to visit Punjab. The purpose of the visit is to study the system firsthand and resolve all technical and administrative challenges before its province-wide rollout. He emphasized the importance of close coordination with the Finance Department to facilitate timely implementation across all districts.
Minister Ayub set a clear deadline for the completion of the system, instructing that it be fully operational by June 2026. He highlighted that the system would not only save manpower but also enhance transparency and reduce time wastage in government operations.
The Secretary Local Government informed the meeting that the project is currently in its initial stages, with work progressing rapidly. Once fully implemented, the system will centralize and digitize all data of the Local Government Department, marking a significant step forward in the province’s governance and administrative efficiency.
The Minister expressed satisfaction with the progress so far and thanked the World Bank representatives for their continued cooperation in the initiative.
