‘KP govt to send delegation to Afghanistan for peace talks’

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government spokesperson Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif has said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led provincial government has decided to send a delegation to Afghanistan for negotiations aimed at restoring peace and stability in the region. In a press statement issued here on Friday, Mr Saif stated that the provincial government was preparing the Terms of Reference (TOR) for the talks with the Taliban government in Afghanistan, which will be submitted to the federal government for approval.
“There will be no negotiations with extremist elements. Once the rules and regulations are finalized, the delegation will be dispatched to Afghanistan,” he said and added that the initiative seeks to lay a strong foundation for ending ongoing unrest in the region. Following the federal government’s approval, he said, the delegation will comprise tribal elders, religious scholars, and political leaders.
“The purpose of this dialogue is to establish peace and order in KP, including the tribal districts, which are directly affected by the situation in Afghanistan,” he said.
He highlighted that the Pakhtun tribes share deep cultural and historical ties across the 2,650-kilometer-long Pak-Afghan border, making KP’s role crucial in fostering regional stability. Given the province’s understanding of tribal dynamics and diplomatic complexities, the KP government was committed to facilitating meaningful negotiations, Mr Saif added.
