Agriculture minister for regional crop development, high-yielding seeds

PESHAWAR
Provincial Minister for Agriculture, Major Retired Sajjad Barkwal, has stressed the need for introducing high-yielding seeds in research centers to boost per-acre production, enabling farmers to thrive and the province to achieve food self-sufficiency.
He emphasized the importance of research centers focusing on regional crop development to introduce high-quality seeds tailored to local conditions.
The Minister for Agriculture expressed these views while presiding over a special meeting of the Provincial Seed Council.
The members of the Provincial Seed Council including the Secretary Agriculture participated in the meeting.
In the meeting, there was a detailed discussion on the agenda of the meeting, including the proposals and objectives of the Provincial Seed Council, reorganization, certification of seeds and increasing production.
In the meeting, there was a discussion on the cultivation of four types of Punjab wheat seeds Akbar-2019, Urooj-2022, Fakhr Bhakkar-2017 and Bhakkar Star in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In the meeting, it was decided that further research on these seeds, production, diseases including various factors should be reviewed and presented again next week.
The meeting was informed that so far 41 different varieties of wheat seeds have been introduced.
Provincial Minister for Agriculture Major Retired Sajjad Barkwal directed to establish links among directorates of Agriculture regarding seeds. He further Instructed to increase the representation of farmers in the Provincial Seed Council and to increase the members of the representative council of farmers from other districts including Chitral, Para Chinar should be included.
He further said that the welfare of the farmers is a priority. The production of Kaptan Seed Maize is the best in production. Any kind of negligence in departmental affairs will not be tolerated.
He directed the officers to perform their responsibilities and duties in a better manner. Agriculture has an important role in food security.
The representatives of the farmers in the provincial seed council appreciated the initiatives of the provincial minister for agriculture.
