No talks with India for resumption of bilateral trade: FO

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office (FO) said on Friday that there were no talks taking place between Pakistan and India for the resumption of bilateral trade.

FO spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, while addressing the weekly press briefing, cited India’s illegal and unilateral steps in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) in 2019 as the reason behind the suspension of bilateral trade.

Baloch recalled that several measures including the suspension of trading were taken after the Indian government on August 5, 2019, illegally annexed the IIOJK by revoking the Article 370 of its constitution.

“This situation remains intact,” she emphasised.

The main intent behind observing the day is to expose Indian atrocities and show solidarity with the people of occupied Kashmir.

Condemning the killing of four Kashmiri youth by Indian occupation forces in Doda district, the spokesperson said the brutal act was yet another example of India’s illegal and oppressive steps against the Kashmiri people.

She urged the international community to take immediate and decisive action to hold India accountable for its egregious human rights violations in IIOJK and take steps to protect the rights and freedoms of Kashmiri people.
