CM-KP calls for enhanced security measures in Kurram

Says 65 checkpoints will be setup along the Kurram Highway

PESHAWAR
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur on Monday emphasized that the ongoing unrest in Kurram district is not terrorism but a result of sectarian tensions fueled by a few miscreants.
He called on local elders to assist in identifying these individuals, who will be treated as terrorists under the law.
CM Gandapur said that a grand Jirga has been established to mediate and achieve a lasting peace.
“This Jirga will remain active in the district until stability is fully restored,” he said and added that under security measures more than 65 checkpoints will be set up along the Kurram Highway to ensure safety in the region.
Heavy weapons held by individuals in the area will be confiscated and all bunkers built by local groups in the district will be demolished by the law enforcement agencies.
“Individuals spreading sectarian hatred will be declared terrorists and placed in Schedule Four. Frontier Constabulary platoons have been requested to enhance security in the region,” he said.
While chairing the cabinet meeting, CM-KP maintained that Rs 380 million has been released for compensation to the families of those killed or injured, as well as for property damage in the Kurram. Additional funds will be allocated if required. A survey is underway to assess damages for compensation distribution.
The Chief Minister reiterated that securing peace in Kurram is critical, highlighting the importance of a ceasefire and the role of elders in resolving the conflict. He also directed the immediate supply of medicines via helicopter to address shortages.
