Thalassemia Prevention Day: Barrister Saif inaugurates newly established Thalassemia center at Alkhidmat Hospital
PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government spokesperson Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif on Friday emphasized the critical need for public awareness to combat the life-threatening disease of thalassemia.
Addressing a ceremony at Alkhidmat Hospital Nishtarabad Peshawar on Thalassemia Prevention Day, Barrister Saif explained that this hereditary disease not only results in the loss of precious lives but also leaves a lifelong impact on affected families, causing enduring emotional trauma. He stressed that educating the public and raising awareness about thalassemia prevention is imperative.
He highlighted that preventive measures such as pre-marital blood testing and other precautions can effectively curb the disease’s spread. He urged not only the government but also social organizations and the public to actively contribute to this cause to safeguard society from thalassemia.
On this occasion, Barrister Saif inaugurated a newly established Thalassemia Center at Alkhidmat Hospital. Commending Alkhidmat Foundation’s dedication and relentless efforts in the fight against thalassemia, he described the organization as a beacon of hope for the nation, driven by a passion for humanitarian service. He reaffirmed the KP government’s commitment to fully supporting Alkhidmat Foundation in its mission to combat such diseases through collaborative efforts.
Expressing his delight in participating in a purely humanitarian initiative, Dr Saif stated, “It gives me immense joy to be part of a program that is neither politically driven nor tied to any specific agenda, but purely focused on human welfare.”
He further highlighted the necessity of organizing such events to foster empathy and solidarity in society. “Our true virtue lies in feeling the pain of others and helping them to the best of our abilities,” he remarked. Acknowledging Alkhidmat Foundation’s efforts, he said their work continuously reminds us of the spirit of humanity and is indeed praiseworthy.
Barrister Dr. Saif also called upon religious and political leaders to actively address thalassemia awareness, as awareness is the most effective form of prevention. He remarked that some diseases are tests from God, and facing them with patience and resilience is part of faith, yet consistent efforts to overcome these challenges are equally essential.
He urged society to intensify efforts to resolve pressing social issues. Reflecting on societal constraints, he said, “Our tragedy is that we are living in an era where outdated traditions and social norms have constrained our thoughts and consciousness, leading to various challenges.” He particularly appealed to the youth to come forward and play a proactive role in addressing these issues, emphasizing that the future lies in their hands.
In closing, Dr. Saif assured that the provincial government will continue to provide full support to Alkhidmat Foundation in their humanitarian mission to control diseases like thalassemia
