\nIn a significant step towards academic excellence, the 69th meeting of the Academic Council of Allama Iqbal Open University, chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood, approved a number of major academic reforms, including new academic programs, revised policies and measures to strengthen the University\u2019s academic framework.
\nTo expand access to science education through distance learning, the Council approved the launch of FSc Pre-Medical and FSc Pre-Engineering programs from the Autumn 2026 Semester. The new programs will provide greater educational opportunities for students aspiring to pursue science education through the University\u2019s flexible learning system.
\nThe Academic Council approved renaming the BS Mass Communication program as Bachelor of Studies in Media and Communication Studies. In addition it approved ten Certificate Courses in Mass Communication along with several new Associate Degree and BS programs in various disciplines to meet emerging educational and professional needs.
\nThe Council also approved a minimum CGPA of 3.00 as the eligibility criterion for the award of Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals at future convocations. The decision aims to recognize and encourage outstanding academic achievement while promoting a culture of excellence among students.
\nThe Council further approved significant changes to the structure of MPhil and PhD programs. Under the revised policy, each faculty will offer one MPhil and one PhD program with multiple specializations. The initiative is designed to improve student management, enhance academic quality and ensure the efficient utilization of the University\u2019s academic resources.
\nAll decisions approved by the Academic Council will be submitted to the Executive Council for final ratification.
\nAddressing the meeting, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood reaffirmed the University\u2019s commitment to promoting quality, modern and student-centered education. He said the reforms approved by the Academic Council would further strengthen academic standards, enhance institutional effectiveness and equip students with the knowledge, skills and competencies needed to meet future academic and professional challenges.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
