\nSpeaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Babar Saleem Swati on Tuesday reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening relations with the media and enhancing the professional capacity of parliamentary reporters, describing a free and responsible press as essential for democratic governance.
\nThe remarks came during a meeting with a delegation of the KP Assembly Press Gallery, led by its president Gulzar Khan, General Secretary Rasool Dawar and Coordinator Arsalan Junaid, at the Assembly Secretariat.
\nThe delegation thanked the speaker for arranging a training workshop for members of the Press Gallery in Nathiagali, describing it as a valuable initiative for the professional development of parliamentary reporters.
\nOn the occasion, the delegation presented a commemorative shield to Mr Swati in recognition of his continued support for journalists covering proceedings of the provincial assembly.
\nThe speaker assured the delegation of his full cooperation and support, saying parliamentary reporters served as an important link between the legislature and the public by ensuring accurate and informed reporting.
\nHe said training programmes and exposure visits would help enhance journalists\u2019 professional capacity, improve the quality of parliamentary reporting and further strengthen democratic institutions.
\nMr Swati also directed the relevant authorities to arrange a recreational and study tour for members of the Press Gallery to Naran next month, aimed at providing additional opportunities for learning, professional engagement and exposure.
