LONDON: Britain\u2019s \u200cKing Charles will tell the public for the first time on Thursday how \u200bmuch tax he pays as monarch, a royal spokesperson said on Sunday, as Buckingham Palace seeks to be more accountable and transparent.<\/p>\n
By law, Charles is not obliged to pay income tax, capital gains \u200ctax or inheritance \u200ctax on \u200bwhat \u200che \u2060received from \u200bQueen Elizabeth, but \u2060Charles has voluntarily agreed to pay income tax and capital gains tax when he sells private assets.<\/p>\n
Details will come as part of annual royal accounts \u2060due for release on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Charles \u200creceives personal \u200cincome from land, private estates \u200band investments \u200con top of the \u00a3132 million ($175 million) \u200che received from the government in the 2025\/26 tax year to support royal duties.<\/p>\n
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said \u200cthe move aimed to \u201cencourage wider understanding of our accountability.\u201d<\/p>\n
Charles \u2060provided \u2060information on his tax payments when he was Prince of Wales and intends to continue to do so in future years as king, the palace said.<\/p>\n
