ISLAMABAD
\nWhile terming Pakistan efforts a major success, Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has announced US and Iran have electronically signed Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and he as mediator has endorsed the agreement.
\nThis agreement will come into effect immediately and play key role for peace, stability and promotion of mutual confidence in the region.
\nPM has said in his statement that under historic MOU Iran has agreed on reopening Hormuz Straits immediately and US will lift the naval blockade forthwith.
\nPM described this movement forward a historical milestone for ending tension in the region and establishment of peace.
\nPM while congratulating US president Trump for playing role in the success of agreement said he played a vital role in ending a big conflict through diplomacy.
\nHe also mentioned Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, whose tireless efforts, selfless dedication and instrumental role were critical in facilitating this breakthrough and advancing the cause of peace and regional stability.
\nPM Shehbaz Sharif said in his statement on X that this agreement which has taken place at high government level has yielded proof Washington and Tehran are agreed on pursuing diplomatic way to end conflict. MOU has come into force forthwith.
\nUnder the agreement Iran will reopen strait of Hormuz while US will immediately lift the naval blockade.
\nThe memorandum establishes a framework for ending military operations and beginning negotiations on long-term issues, including regional security and Iran\u2019s nuclear programme. It also outlines steps toward reopening the Strait of Hormuz and easing restrictions affecting maritime trade.
\nThe agreement reportedly entered into force immediately after being endorsed by the leaders of both countries and the Pakistani mediator.
\nPakistan, alongside Qatar, is expected to participate in a formal ceremony in Switzerland to mark the agreement and launch technical-level discussions on implementation.
