PESHAWAR
\nThe final round of the All Pakistan Inter-University Basketball Championship commenced at the University of Peshawar Sports Ground under the auspices of the Directorate of Sports, University of Peshawar. A total of 12 leading universities from across the country are participating in the championship, showcasing their talent and competing for the coveted title.
\nThe championship was formally inaugurated by the Executive Director of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Zia-ul-Haq (Sitara-e-Imtiaz). The opening ceremony was attended by the Registrar of the University of Peshawar, Prof. Dr. Ureed Ahsan Zia, Director General Sports HEC Rizwan Shaukat, Assistant Director Sports Muhammad Asif, and other distinguished guests.
\nParticipating teams include the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) Islamabad, Iqra University Karachi, University of Central Punjab Lahore, University of Lahore, Government College University Faisalabad, National University of Modern Languages (NUML) Islamabad, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore, Government College University Lahore, University of the Punjab Lahore, University of Haripur, University of Sargodha, and the host University of Peshawar.
\nSpeaking on the occasion, Registrar University of Peshawar Prof. Dr. Ureed Ahsan Zia said that the University of Peshawar has always excelled not only in academics but also in sports. He noted that the university has produced numerous national and international athletes who have brought laurels to Pakistan. He added that the university\u2019s sports facilities remain active throughout the year, providing students with ample opportunities to develop their athletic abilities alongside their academic pursuits. He emphasized that national-level events such as the Inter-University Basketball Championship play a vital role in promoting healthy competition, discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship among students.
\nAddressing the ceremony, HEC Executive Director Zia-ul-Haq (Sitara-e-Imtiaz) highlighted the importance of sports in building a healthy and progressive society. He congratulated the University of Peshawar and its Directorate of Sports for successfully organizing the championship and stated that the Higher Education Commission remains committed to promoting sports activities across universities in Pakistan. He remarked that such events foster harmony, friendship, and national integration among students from different regions of the country. He further said that Pakistan is blessed with immense sporting talent and that providing young athletes with proper platforms and opportunities is essential for their growth and success.
\nAt the conclusion of the ceremony, the chief guest and other dignitaries interacted with the players and appreciated their enthusiasm and commitment to the game.
