The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Thursday inaugurated Phase-II of the Daycare and Learning Centre at the Civil Secretariat, expanding its capacity to facilitate a growing number of children of government employees.
\nChief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah inaugurated the expanded facility during a visit to the Secretariat. He was accompanied by Additional Chief Secretary (General) Abid Majeed, Secretary Administration Shahid Sohail Khan and other senior officials.
\nOfficials said the existing daycare centre, established in 2018, could accommodate only 12 children despite demand from over 160 children of employees, prompting the need for expansion.
\nDeputy Secretary Dr Iza Arshad briefed the Chief Secretary that the Civil Secretariat has 224 female employees, with an estimated 164 children aged between 0 and 5 years requiring childcare support.
\nThe upgraded facility can now accommodate more than 30 children and includes improved infrastructure designed to provide a safe and child-friendly learning environment. The centre has been developed on Montessori-based learning principles to support early cognitive and social development.
\nSafety features such as EVA foam flooring, child-safe furniture and hazard-free rooms have been installed, while trained staff including a Montessori teacher, a nurse and childcare assistants have been deployed to ensure proper care.
\nOfficials said additional arrangements include daily health screening, regular sanitisation and dedicated feeding and resting areas for children.
