Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Shafi Jan said on Wednesday that Chief Minister Sohail Afridi effectively presented the province\u2019s case for its constitutional and financial rights at the National Economic Council meeting.
\nIn a statement on the NEC meeting, Jan said the assurance to update the National Finance Commission Award reflected the success of the provincial government\u2019s stance and was a positive development for the people of KP. He welcomed the decision to include the financial share of the merged districts in the new NFC Award, saying it would benefit the province, particularly residents of the former FATA region.
\nSafeguarding the constitutional and financial rights of KP\u2019s people remains the top priority of the provincial government, Jan said.
\n\u201cChief Minister Sohail Afridi has consistently raised an effective voice for the province\u2019s rights at every constitutional and national forum,\u201d he added.
\nThe minister emphasized that KP was not seeking concessions from the federal government but demanding its constitutional and legal entitlements.
\nHe said achieving development goals would not be possible without the full financial inclusion of the merged districts, and that the provincial government was pursuing a comprehensive strategy for the development, rehabilitation, and stability of both settled and merged areas.
\nJan said the federal government owed KP billions of rupees under various heads, including NFC arrears, War on Terror reimbursements, and net hydel profit payments. Once received, he said, the funds would be spent on provincial development, basic services, and public welfare.
\nHe also announced that under CM Afridi\u2019s leadership, a protest demonstration would be held in Islamabad on June 12.
