WASHINGTON, United States: The United States announced Friday that it is \u201cdismantling a sophisticated Iranian network\u201d used to obtain sensitive military technology.<\/p>\n
The network \u201cimpersonated and defrauded\u201d dozens of American technology companies out of millions of dollars to \u201cacquire advanced equipment \u2014 including spectrum analyzers and security detection devices \u2014 for Iran\u2019s defense sector,\u201d State Department Tommy Pigott said in a statement.<\/p>\n
The statement did not name the technology companies who were lured into doing business through fake websites that \u201cmimicked real American companies, using intermediaries in Dubai to receive shipments, and then smuggling the technology into Iran in violation of US sanctions.\u201d<\/p>\n
The network was led by Iran-based Ali Majd Sepehr, the State Department spokesman said.<\/p>\n
On Thursday, the State Department announced a $15 million reward for any information \u201cleading to the disruption of the financial mechanisms of Iran\u2019s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its various branches.\u201d<\/p>\n
