\nPresident Xi Jinping hailed China\u2019s \u201cunbreakable\u201d \u200cfriendship with Pakistan on Monday as he met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Beijing, seeking to deepen their \u201call-weather\u201d partnership.
\nXi welcomed the Pakistani leader as an \u201cold friend\u201d at Beijing\u2019s Great Hall of the People as the two countries mark 75 years of diplomatic relations.
\nHe said the two \u200bcountries had \u201cunderstood, trusted and supported each other\u201d over decades, adding, \u201cNo matter how the international situation changes, China always prioritises the development of China-Pakistan relations in its neighbourhood diplomacy.\u201d
\nDeputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, and other senior officials were present on the Pakistani side.
\nPM Shehbaz said Pakistan and China are \u201cproudly celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations,\u201d paying tribute to the founding fathers of both nations for laying the foundation of their enduring partnership, according to Pakistan TV.
\nReaffirming the \u201ciron-brother\u201d relationship, he added both countries remain committed to taking bilateral ties \u201cfrom strength to strength\u201d through year-long celebrations and deeper strategic cooperation.
\nIn his address, President Xi extended warm greetings to the people of Pakistan while welcoming PM Shehbaz and Field Marshal Munir to China. He praised Pakistan\u2019s constructive role and peace efforts in the region, saying the two countries had for 75 years stood together with mutual trust, unwavering support, and an unbreakable traditional friendship that continues to strengthen strategic cooperation and shared development, according to Pakistan TV.
\nSeparately, PM Shehbaz said Pakistan had played a \u201cvery sincere role\u201d in efforts to mediate between the US and Iran, as he held high-level talks with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing focused on regional stability, bilateral cooperation and deepening strategic ties.
\nDuring the meeting at the Great Hall of the People, the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding shared interests and promoting peace amid rising tensions in the Gulf.
\nThe prime minister is in China on a four-day visit from May 23-26. The visit is expected to highlight a new chapter in the 75-year-old China-Pakistan relationship, which has long been recognised for mutual trust and enduring cooperation despite changing international circumstances, according to a commentary published on China\u2019s CGTN website.
