In a significant move aimed at the revival and promotion of women\u2019s hockey, President of the Pakistan Hockey Federation and Federal Secretary for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC), Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, has entrusted former Deputy Mayor of Islamabad, Syed Zeeshan Naqvi with an important responsibility for the development of women\u2019s hockey in the federal capital.
\nThe announcement was made during the closing ceremony of the Shahida Raza Memorial Hockey Tournament held here at the Naseer Bunda Hockey Stadium.
\nThe ceremony was attended by Patron of Islamabad Girls Hockey Academy Ammara Awais Niazi, former Deputy Mayor Syed Zeeshan Naqvi, Event Organizing Secretary Riffat Masood, and several other distinguished guests, said a press release.
\nSpeaking on the occasion, Wani reaffirmed the government\u2019s commitment to restoring the glory of Pakistan\u2019s national sport. He stated that after focusing on the senior and junior men\u2019s national teams, the federation is now turning its full attention toward the growth and development of women\u2019s hockey.
\n\u201cWe are making serious efforts for the revival and promotion of hockey. Our goal is to provide maximum playing opportunities and exposure to women players so they can compete at higher levels,\u201d Wani said, adding that collective efforts from all stakeholders are essential for Pakistan to regain its lost stature in international hockey.
\nWhile assigning the new responsibility to Syed Zeeshan Naqvi, the PHF President expressed the confidence that he would play a vital role in strengthening and promoting women\u2019s hockey in Islamabad and beyond.
\nEarlier in the tournament final, Olympian Zakir Hockey Academy Wah delivered a dominant performance to defeat Islamabad Girls Hockey Academy 7-0. For the winning side, Anaya Batool scored a brilliant hat-trick, while Shireen Fatima and Areeba Aslam netted two goals each.
