PESHAWAR: The direction came during a meeting held at Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines under the chairmanship of Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Dr Mian Saeed Ahmed, in line with local traditions of amicable dispute settlement.
\nThe meeting was attended by chairmen and secretaries of all DRCs in Peshawar, including Brig (retd) Saleem Ashraf, Abdul Latif, Dr Izharul Haq, Ehsanullah, Malik Imran, Khalil Khan, Dr Faridullah, Hazratullah, Haji Abid Iqbal and Fazlur Rehman.
\nThe CCPO appreciated the role of DRCs in resolving disputes without any cost to the public and announced that monthly review meetings would be held to ensure continuity and effectiveness of their performance.
\nParticipants discussed key challenges, including timely compliance with summons, ensuring attendance of both parties, improving coordination between station house officers (SHOs) and DRCs, and organising training workshops for capacity building.
\nThe meeting also commended the ongoing actions of Peshawar police against encroachment, extortion and other criminal activities.
\nDr Saeed said the DRCs had played a significant role in resolving cases related to property, financial transactions and domestic disputes.
\nHe added that in view of the upcoming Muharram, most petitions received during open courts would be referred to DRCs instead of police officers, expressing hope that the councils would ensure prompt and dignified justice within the stipulated timeframe.
\nThe CCPO expressed confidence in the leadership of DRCs, terming their voluntary services a positive step towards promoting justice and social harmony.<\/p>\n
