{"id":96479,"date":"2026-04-17T11:01:55","date_gmt":"2026-04-17T06:01:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nabanews.pk\/en\/?p=96479"},"modified":"2026-04-17T11:01:55","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T06:01:55","slug":"forced-displacements-to-soar-by-4-2m-by-2027-aid-group-warns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nabanews.pk\/en\/forced-displacements-to-soar-by-4-2m-by-2027-aid-group-warns\/","title":{"rendered":"Forced displacements to soar by 4.2m by 2027, aid group warns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>COPENHAGEN: Wars, conflicts, violence, and persecutions will drive 4.2 million people from their homes by the end of 2027, not including those affected by the war in the Middle East, a Danish humanitarian aid agency warned on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The number does not take into account those fleeing their homes due to the current situation in the Middle East, as the Danish Refugee Council\u2019s projections were based on data available at the end of 2025, it said in its annual displacement forecast.<\/p>\n<p>The figure of 4.2 million comes on top of the 117.3 million people already displaced worldwide, DRC said.<\/p>\n<p>The war in the Middle East \u201cis driving new displacements and making the humanitarian situation worse,\u201d the agency\u2019s secretar-general, Charlotte Slente, said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a road map that can pull the region back from the brink; the current ceasefire must become permanent, and it must be extended to Lebanon, where one in five people have been displaced by the conflict,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFamilies in Lebanon and Iran must be allowed home to rebuild their lives in peace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The report noted that recent displacements are increasingly spread across more countries, rather than concentrated in a few major crises as in the past.<\/p>\n<p>In 2025, Myanmar and Sudan alone accounted for more than half of the projected total, while in the updated forecast, they account for a quarter of the total.<\/p>\n<p>International aid cuts have also had a direct impact on displacements.<\/p>\n<p>In the five countries with the highest estimated displacements in 2025 \u2014 Ukraine, Myanmar, South Sudan, Nigeria, and Mali \u2014 funding for peace efforts declined by 23 percent on average in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Conversely, in the five countries where displacement decreased the most \u2014 Somalia, Sudan, Afghanistan, Syria, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo \u2014 funding for peace efforts rose on average by 15 percent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe international community is facing a catastrophic failure to protect the world\u2019s most vulnerable,\u201d Slente said, noting a 14 percent surge in violence against civilians in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor families fleeing war with nothing but the clothes on their backs, there is little hope: the international safety net that once existed has gaping holes\u201d as humanitarian assistance shrinks, she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>COPENHAGEN: Wars, conflicts, violence, and persecutions will drive 4.2 million people from their homes by the end of 2027, not including those affected by the war in the Middle East, a Danish humanitarian aid agency warned on Thursday.
