PESHAWAR
\nKhyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Irrigation Riaz Khan on Thursday chaired a review meeting on the performance of the irrigation department, stressing urgent measures for flood preparedness and improvement of canal infrastructure.
\nThe meeting, held at the irrigation department\u2019s committee room, was attended by Abdul Basit, chief engineers and other officials.
\nParticipants reviewed ongoing development projects, canal cleaning, equitable water distribution, construction of protective embankments and progress on key irrigation schemes across the province.
\nIn view of a potential flood situation, the minister directed authorities to take immediate steps to safeguard public life and property, including strengthening embankments and improving the canal system.
\nHe said protecting citizens remains the top priority of the provincial government.
\nRiaz Khan added that under the leadership of Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi, practical steps are being taken to modernise the irrigation system, enhance canal infrastructure and ensure timely water supply to farmers.
