\nChief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir landed in Tehran on Wednesday as part of the ongoing Mideast peace negotiation efforts.
\nThe Inter Services Public Relations said in a statement that he was part of a delegation that also included Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi received the delegation.
\nA senior Iranian source told Reuters that CDF Munir was heading to Iran \u201cto narrow gaps\u201d between Iran and the United States.
\nIran earlier said it continued to exchange messages with Washington through Pakistani mediators.
\n\u201cMessage exchanges continue\u201d regarding negotiations with the United States, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said in a news briefing cited by the state news agency IRNA.
\n\u201cSince Sunday, when the Iranian delegation returned to Tehran, multiple messages have been exchanged through the Pakistani intermediary,\u201d he added.
\n\u201cOur positions have been conveyed and heard,\u201d he added.
\nOn the nuclear file, the spokesperson said discussions over uranium enrichment are not new.
\n\u201cThere is room for discussion on the type and level of enrichment,\u201d he said.
\n\u201cThe Islamic Republic of Iran must be able to continue enrichment based on its national needs,\u201d he added.
