\nSpecial Assistant to the Chief Minister on Information Shafi Jan has strongly condemned the arrest of peaceful workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) outside Adiala Jail, terming it an act of authoritarianism.
\nIn a statement issued here, he said the Punjab government\u2019s action was \u201chighly condemnable and regrettable\u201d and reflected \u201cauthoritarian governance\u201d in the province.
\nHe added that PTI workers, along with the sisters and lawyers of the party\u2019s founding chairman, Imran Khan, had gone to meet him in line with court orders but were denied access.
\nShafi Jan said the refusal to allow meetings, along with the arrest of peaceful workers, amounted to a violation of the Constitution, court orders, jail rules, and fundamental human rights.
\nHe maintained that meetings with Imran Khan\u2019s family, political leadership, and legal team were a legal and constitutional right that could not be suspended.
\nHe further alleged that an undeclared ban on meetings with the PTI founder amounted to political victimisation and solitary confinement, adding that such actions had exposed what he called the \u201cauthoritarian conduct\u201d of both the federal and Punjab governments.
\nThe CM aide also criticised the federal government, accusing it of pursuing political revenge, filing false cases, and suppressing political activities of the opposition, while neglecting public issues due to what he described as poor economic and anti-people policies.
\nMr Jan said the party would continue its \u201cpeaceful and legal struggle\u201d for the supremacy of the Constitution, the rule of law, and the release of Imran Khan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
