{"id":95390,"date":"2026-03-26T10:54:41","date_gmt":"2026-03-26T05:54:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nabanews.pk\/en\/?p=95390"},"modified":"2026-03-26T10:54:41","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T05:54:41","slug":"world-staring-down-barrel-of-wider-conflict-un-chief","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nabanews.pk\/en\/world-staring-down-barrel-of-wider-conflict-un-chief\/","title":{"rendered":"World staring down barrel of wider conflict: UN chief"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Iran war \u2018out of control\u2019<br \/>\nnew york<br \/>\nUN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned on Wednesday that the Iran war has spun beyond all boundaries, declaring the conflict \u201cout of control,\u201d cautioning that the world faces the prospect of a far broader confrontation.<br \/>\n\u201cMore than three weeks on, this war is out of control,\u201d Guterres told reporters at a news conference at UN headquarters in New York, adding that \u201cthe conflict has broken past the limits even leaders thought imaginable.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cThe world is staring down the barrel of a wider war, a rising tide of human suffering, and a deeper global economic shock,\u201d he said, stressing that it \u201chas gone too far.\u201d<br \/>\nCalling for an end to the military escalation, Guterres said. \u201cIt is time to stop climbing the escalation ladder and start climbing the diplomatic ladder, and return to full respect of international law.\u201d<br \/>\nAlso Read: Iran rejects US proposal, outlines five conditions to end war<br \/>\nPointing to the key parties involved in the war, he said, \u201cMy message to the United States and Israel is that it is high time to end the war as human suffering deepens, civilian casualties mount, and the global economic impact is increasingly devastating.\u201d<br \/>\nGuterres urged Iran to end attacks on the Gulf countries, arguing that they \u201care not parties to the conflict.\u201d<br \/>\nHighlighting the economic ripple effects of the war, Guterres said, \u201cThe prolonged closure of the Strait (of Hormuz) is choking the movement of oil, gas, and fertilizer at a critical moment in the global planting season.\u201d<br \/>\nThe UN chief turned his attention to Lebanon and said, \u201cIsrael must stop its military operations and strikes in Lebanon, which are hitting civilians the hardest,\u201d adding, \u201cThe Gaza model must not be replicated in Lebanon.\u201d<br \/>\nIranian missiles, drones rain down on Gulf countries as tensions spike<br \/>\nMissiles and drones rained down on Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Bahrain on Wednesday as Iran continued its retaliatory strikes against the ongoing US-Israeli attacks on the country.<br \/>\nThe Saudi Defence Ministry said in a statement that air defenses intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile and 31 drones over the Eastern Province.<br \/>\nThe Civil Defence said debris from the intercepted missile fell on two homes, including one under construction, causing limited property damage. No casualties were reported.<br \/>\nIn Kuwait, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation said drones targeted a fuel tank at Kuwait International Airport, sparking a fire at the site. Initial reports indicated only material damage from the attack.<br \/>\nKuwait\u2019s National Guard said it shot down one drone and five unmanned aerial vehicles in areas under its protection.<br \/>\nIn Bahrain, the Interior Ministry said warning sirens sounded, without giving further details.
