PARIS: French President Emmanuel Macron said on Sunday he \u200bhad asked Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to put an immediate end to attacks against countries in the Middle East whether directly or through proxies, including in Lebanon and Iraq.<\/p>\n
\u201cI \u200creminded him that \u200cFrance is \u200bacting \u200cwithin \u2060a \u200bstrictly defensive framework \u2060aimed at protecting its interests, its regional partners, and freedom of navigation, and that it is unacceptable for our country to be targeted,\u201d Macron said \u2060in a post on X.<\/p>\n
Macron \u200calso stressed \u200cthe need for \u200bfreedom of \u200cnavigation to resume in the Strait \u200cof Hormuz.<\/p>\n
\u201cFreedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz must be restored as soon as possible,\u201d he \u200csaid.<\/p>\n
The French president said lasting stability would require a new \u2060political \u2060and security framework addressing concerns over Iran\u2019s nuclear ambitions, ballistic missile program and regional activities.<\/p>\n
