In a move aimed at promoting rehabilitation through education and digital empowerment, CECOS University and Rehman Medical Institute (RMI) inaugurated the Umeed Digital Lab at Central Jail Peshawar under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
\nProvincial minister for law Aftab Alam Afridi and Inspector General of Prisons Rehan Gul Khattak attended the inaugural ceremony.
\nAisha Bano former member of the KP Assembly, along with officials and staff of Central Jail Peshawar were also present on the occasion.
\nSenior representatives from the partner institutions were also present at the event.
\nFrom Rehman Medical Institute, Shafique Ur Rehman, Chief Executive Officer, attended the ceremony.
\nThe CECOS University delegation included Engr Sohaib Tanveer, Vice President; Prof Dr Muhammad Mohsin Khan, Vice Chancellor; Muhammad Sajid, Manager Administration; Muhammad Hamza, Coordinator to the Vice President; and Sar Zamin, Network Administrator.
\nFollowing the inauguration, the delegates also visited Industrial Prison Peshawar to observe ongoing vocational training and skill development programmes for inmates.
\nThe Umeed Digital Lab has been established to provide prisoners with access to modern technology and structured digital learning opportunities, enabling them to acquire practical skills that can support personal development and improve their prospects for reintegration into society after release.
\nEquipped with 30 computers powered by Intel Core i3 and i5 (fourth generation) processors, the lab is designed to offer a reliable environment for hands-on training and online learning.
\nAccording to the organisers, training programmes at the facility will include courses in Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office \u2014 including Word, Excel and PowerPoint \u2014 as well as WordPress, with a focus on digital literacy, graphic design and web development.
\nThe initiative reflects the shared commitment of CECOS University and Rehman Medical Institute to contribute positively to society by promoting education, rehabilitation and capacity-building within correctional facilities.
\nThrough this CSR initiative, both institutions aim to provide incarcerated individuals with meaningful learning opportunities and equip them with digital competencies that may help them pursue constructive pathways after their release.
