\nPunjab Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that wildlife is a vital national asset and protecting it is a shared responsibility. In her special message on World Wildlife Day, she said Punjab introduced innovative reforms to curb illegal hunting and unlawful possession of wild animals through amendments to the Punjab Wildlife Act 1974 and the Protected Areas Act.
\nShe noted that the Wildlife Helpline 1107 had been made fully operational, with online services now available for shooting licences, import and export permits, hunting permits, and registration of breeding farms.
\nFor the first time in the province, an artificial intelligence-based animal census system has been implemented, complemented by GPS and collar tracker systems to monitor rescued animals.
\nAt Lahore Safari Zoo, modern facilities including a 3D screen, animal sculptures, and a 7D wildlife cinema were being introduced. Construction of Punjab\u2019s first wildlife hospital had reached 80 per cent completion, where specialist veterinary doctors would be appointed for each species. Plans were also underway for a 360-degree virtual zoo to allow citizens to observe wildlife from home.
\nDevelopment and renovation projects were ongoing at Changa Manga, Uchhali Wetlands, Chashma Barrage, Bansra Gali Wildlife Park, and Murree Biodiversity Park.
\nThe chief minister highlighted that residential standards for captive animals and birds have been set, while 544 wildlife rangers equipped with modern weapons, IT tools, drones, body cameras, and night-vision equipment have been deployed. A special bike squad has also been formed to protect wildlife in desert areas.
\nShe underlined that a dedicated wildlife force had been established to ensure effective protection across the province, with strict enforcement of the Animal Rights and Protection Act against illegal hunting, unlawful captivity, and cruelty to animals and birds.
\nCM Maryam Nawaz Sharif said respecting animal rights aligns with Islamic teachings and legal obligations, noting that protecting rare species also promotes tourism and creates employment opportunities. \u201cWildlife is our future asset; protecting it is our responsibility,\u201d she said, urging the public to support government initiatives for wildlife conservation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
