US President Donald Trump\u2019s administration has \u200bended temporary protected status for Yemen, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem said on Friday, the latest move targeting immigrants.<\/p>\n
The decision to end humanitarian protections that grant deportation relief and work permits to more \u200cthan a \u200cthousand Yemeni nationals was \u200btaken \u200cafter \u2060determining \u200bthat it \u2060was against the US \u201cnational interest,\u201d Noem said.<\/p>\n
TPS provides relief to people already in the US if their home countries experience a natural disaster, armed conflict or other extraordinary \u2060event. The Trump administration has \u200csought to \u200cend most enrollment in \u200bthe program, saying \u200cit runs counter to US interests.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter \u200creviewing conditions in the country and consulting with appropriate US government agencies, I determined that Yemen no longer meets \u200cthe law\u2019s requirements to be designated for Temporary Protected Status,\u201d she \u2060said.<\/p>\n
Around \u20601,380 Yemeni nationals were covered by the temporary protected status as of March 31, 2025, according to the US Citizenship and Immigration Services. The status was last extended in 2024 and was set to expire on March 3 this year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
