MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin\u2019s envoy Kirill Dmitriev said on Thursday that there was progress and \u200ba positive movement forward in negotiations on peace in Ukraine, as delegations from Russia, Ukraine and the United States prepared for talks in Abu Dhabi.<\/p>\n
Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 after eight years \u200cof fighting in \u200cthe east, triggering \u200cthe \u2060deadliest \u200bwar in \u200cEurope since World War Two and biggest confrontation between Moscow and the West since the depths of the Cold War.<\/p>\n
Dmitriev, Putin\u2019s envoy on investment who has played a central role in \u2060US-mediated negotiations on Ukraine, said that \u201cwarmongers\u201d from \u200cEurope and Britain were \u201cconstantly \u200dtrying to interfere with \u200dthis process, constantly trying to \u200dmeddle in it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd the more such attempts there are, the more we see that progress is definitely being made,\u201d he \u200btold reporters ahead of the talks. \u201cThere is positive movement forward.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said \u2060active work was underway on restoring relations with the United States, including within the framework of a US-Russia working group on economy.<\/p>\n
The two sides also agreed on a fresh prisoner swap, US envoy Steve Witkoff said Thursday, stressing that more work lay ahead.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday, delegations from the United States, Ukraine, and Russia agreed to exchange 314 prisoners \u2014 the first such exchange in five months,\u201d Witkoff said on social media.<\/p>\n
