TOKYO: Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi\u2019s party is likely to score a landslide \u200bvictory in next week\u2019s lower house election, a survey by the Asahi newspaper showed.<\/p>\n
A strong showing in Sunday\u2019s election would solidify Takaichi\u2019s grip on her party and give \u200cher a \u200cmandate for \u200cher expansionary \u2060fiscal \u200bpolicy, \u200cwhich could heighten concerns about Japan\u2019s finances and push bond yields higher.<\/p>\n
Takaichi\u2019s Liberal Democratic Party is likely to well exceed a majority of 233 seats \u2060out of 465 seats up for \u200cgrabs in the lower \u200dhouse, according \u200dto Asahi\u2019s poll released on \u200dSunday. That would be an increase from 198 seats now.<\/p>\n
Together with LDP\u2019s coalition partner, the Japan \u200bInnovation Party or Ishin, the ruling alliance will likely reach \u2060300 seats, the poll showed.<\/p>\n
The largest opposition party, the Centrist Reform Alliance, is struggling and could lose half its 167 seats, the Asahi said.<\/p>\n
