SEOUL: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said the upcoming \u200bcongress of the ruling Workers\u2019 Party will unveil next-stage plans for further strengthening the country\u2019s nuclear war deterrent, KCNA state news agency reported on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Kim directed a successful test of a large-caliber multiple-rocket launch system \u200con Tuesday, \u200cKCNA said. The \u200cdrill demonstrated \u2060significant \u200bupgrades to \u200cthe weapon\u2019s strike power, mobility and accuracy, it quoted him as saying.<\/p>\n
It is an important policy of the ruling Workers\u2019 Party to build a reliable offensive capability and deterrence strategy to \u2060thwart an enemy attempt to spark an \u200carmed conflict, he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis \u200dtest will be \u200da source of excruciating mental \u200dagony and serious threat to the forces that attempt to provoke a military confrontation with us,\u201d Kim said.<\/p>\n
South Korea and Japan \u200bon Tuesday condemned the launch of possible short-range ballistic missiles by \u2060the North toward the sea off its east coast. North Korea has defied a United Nations ban against it on ballistic missile development.<\/p>\n
