\u201cNATO has been telling Denmark, for \u200c20 years, \u200cthat \u201cyou have to get Russian \u200cthreat \u2060away \u200bfrom \u200cGreenland.\u201d Unfortunately, Denmark has been unable to do anything about it,\u201d Trump wrote in a post on the social media website he owns called Truth Social.<\/p>\n
The White House, the Danish Presidency in \u2060the European Union, and Denmark\u2019s foreign affairs ministry did \u200cnot immediately respond to a \u200dReuters\u2019 request \u200dfor comment.<\/p>\n
Trump has repeatedly insisted he \u200dwill settle for nothing less than ownership of Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark.<\/p>\n
Leaders of both Denmark and Greenland have insisted the island \u200bis not for sale and does not want to be part \u2060of the United States.<\/p>\n
Trump on Saturday vowed to implement a wave of increasing tariffs on European allies until the United States is allowed to buy Greenland.<\/p>\n
