{"id":91844,"date":"2026-01-05T10:23:19","date_gmt":"2026-01-05T05:23:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nabanews.pk\/en\/?p=91844"},"modified":"2026-01-05T10:23:19","modified_gmt":"2026-01-05T05:23:19","slug":"pak-afghan-traders-agree-on-roadmap-to-reopen-border-trade-routes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nabanews.pk\/en\/pak-afghan-traders-agree-on-roadmap-to-reopen-border-trade-routes\/","title":{"rendered":"Pak-Afghan traders agree on roadmap to reopen border trade routes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LANDIKOTAL<br \/>\nAfter several rounds of talks, a significant breakthrough has been achieved toward restoring closed trade routes between Pakistan and Afghanistan, after leading representatives of both countries\u2019 business communities agreed on a joint strategy on Sunday to revive cross-border trade, officials said.<br \/>\nTraders said that to ensure the smooth and uninterrupted trade activities beteeen Pakistan and Afghanistan a joint 12-member committee would held a crucial meeting at Torkham on January 6.<br \/>\nThe development came during an important Zoom meeting between senior trade leaders of Pakistan and Afghanistan, where detailed discussions were held on promoting bilateral trade, easing border tensions and ensuring the early reopening of key Pak-Afghan commercial crossings.<br \/>\nThe meeting was attended by Khyber chamber of commerce and industry president Haji Muhammad Yousaf Afridi, Quetta chamber president Haji Ayub Mariani, Waziristan chamber president Haji Qadeerullah Wazir, Kurram small chamber group leader Syed Ali Hamad, tobacco growers association head Muhammad Haroon Sabir, former president of Torkham customs clearing agents ssociation Haji Zaheerullah Shinwari, Mansehra chamber president Mumtaz Shah, Malakand chamber president Inam Jan and other prominent leaders from various chambers of commerce and trade bodies.<br \/>\nThe meeting was jointly chaired from Pakistan by president of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Atif Ikram Sheikh and Patron-in-Chief Syed Muhammad Tanveer, while patron of the Afghanistan chamber of commerce and industry Syed Karim Hashmi led the Afghan side.<br \/>\nParticipants agreed to form a 12-member joint committee comprising six representatives from each country to address trade-related challenges and work toward the immediate reopening of border trade routes.<br \/>\nIt was also decided that the committee\u2019s first formal meeting would be held on January 6 at the Torkham border, where key and final decisions regarding the reopening of crossings was expected.<br \/>\nFrom Pakistan, senior FPCCI leader and chairman of the Pakistan borders trade council, Syed Jawad Hussain Kazmi, was nominated to lead the joint committee.<br \/>\nSpeaking on the occasion, he expressed optimism that the January 6 meeting would bring positive news for traders and the general public of both countries, adding that a formal announcement regarding the reopening of trade routes was likely on the same day.<br \/>\nFPCCI president Atif Ikram Sheikh said that the joint committee would meet on a monthly basis, with future sessions planned in Kabul, Islamabad and other major cities.<br \/>\nHe emphasized that the committee would play a vital role in resolving issues related to bilateral and transit trade and removing practical hurdles faced by the business community.<br \/>\nHe further stated that traders from Pakistan and Afghanistan have historically acted as a bridge between the two nations and that even under current circumstances.<br \/>\nHe said Pakistan\u2019s trade leadership has been granted full authority by the government to pursue dialogue and consultation for sustainable solutions.<br \/>\nAt the conclusion of the meeting, participants from both sides raised slogans of \u201cPakistan\u2013Afghanistan Zindabad\u201d and \u201cPak-Afghan Friendship Zindabad,\u201d terming the formation of the joint committee a historic and positive step toward strengthening bilateral trade.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LANDIKOTAL After several rounds of talks, a significant breakthrough has been achieved toward restoring closed trade routes between Pakistan and Afghanistan, after leading representatives of both countries\u2019 business communities agreed on a joint strategy on Sunday to revive cross-border trade, officials said.
