MOSCOW: Russia has welcomed changes in the US National Security Strategy, saying the adjustments that marked a radical departure from Washington\u2019s previous policy were \u201clargely consistent\u201d with Moscow\u2019s vision.<\/p>\n
Washington\u2019s new National Security Strategy, published early Friday, took aim at allies in Europe, calling it over-regulated, lacking in \u201cself-confidence\u201d and facing \u201ccivilizational erasure\u201d due to immigration.<\/p>\n
The document stated that the United States would also prevent other powers from dominating but added: \u201cThis does not mean wasting blood and treasure to curtail the influence of all the world\u2019s great and middle powers.\u201d<\/p>\n
Commenting on the new US strategy, the Kremlin\u2019s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the current US administration was \u201cfundamentally different from the previous ones.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe adjustments we\u2019re seeing, I would say, are largely consistent with our vision,\u201d Peskov said in an interview with state TV station Rossiya aired Sunday.<\/p>\n
\u201cPresident Trump is currently strong in terms of domestic political positions. And this gives him the opportunity to adjust the concept to suit his vision,\u201d Peskov added.<\/p>\n
The publication of the updated security strategy came as officials from Kyiv held talks in Florida with Trump\u2019s envoys on the US-drafted plan to end the near four-year war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n
Three days of talks produced no apparent breakthrough.<\/p>\n
President Volodymyr Zelensky committed to further negotiations toward \u201creal peace,\u201d as Russia in the early hours of Saturday launched another series of drone and missile strikes at Ukraine.<\/p>\n
Zelensky is due to meet with European leaders \u2014 French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz \u2014 in London on Monday to take stock of the negotiations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
