Chairman Senate Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Monday termed the launch of South Air airline as a \u201chistoric step\u201d to boost regional connectivity, inclusiveness, and access to services across Pakistan.
\nSpeaking at the inaugural ceremony here, he said the new airline reflects a path of progress that will soon offer better travel options for smaller and remote cities.
\nGilani said South Air will help bridge longstanding regional gaps, observing that his political journey has always emphasized building a stronger foundation for Pakistan by improving connectivity. The airline, he said, will link South Punjab with interior Sindh, parts of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
\nHe said improved access would pave the way for development in resources, education and public services, contributing to national cohesion.
\nHighlighting his personal bond with the city, Gilani said Multan has always been close to his heart, calling it a symbol of culture, devotion and service. \u201cSouth Air will give confidence that South Punjab is ready to move forward. It is capable of defining its own path of progress,\u201d he added.
\nHe said the first South Air flight will depart from Karachi and land in Multan, with gradual expansion to other parts of the country.<\/p>\n
Gilani said the new airline would bring positive changes in economic activity, public convenience and national linkages. He expressed hope that South Air\u2019s journey would remain successful, with each flight symbolizing service, safety and progress.
\nHe informed the audience that senator Sana Jamali had suggested inviting members of both houses to visit the airline\u2019s facilities. He also requested Rana Mahmoodul Hassan and others to encourage people to witness the development firsthand.
\nThe Chairman Senate urged the airline\u2019s management to keep fares reasonable so that citizens from all backgrounds could benefit. He said lawmakers, too, face travel constraints due to high fares and could find relief through South Air\u2019s affordable options.
\nGilani concluded by expressing confidence that the new airline would play a defining role in shaping a more connected and prosperous Pakistan.
