\nCoordinator to Federal Tax Ombudsman Saif Ur Rehman Sunday warned that rapid population growth, coupled with climate change, is posing severe and multifaceted threats to Pakistan\u2019s economy. Addressing a seminar on \u201cImpact of Climate Change and Growing Population on Pakistan\u2019s Economy,\u201d he said uncontrolled population growth is putting immense pressure on the country\u2019s limited resources, aggravating unemployment, poverty, and food insecurity. This, he added, undermines social services, human development, and the benefits of economic progress.
\nSaif Ur Rehman highlighted the growing impact of climate change, including floods, droughts, heatwaves, and declining agricultural productivity, which further disrupt livelihoods, particularly in rural areas.
\nHe urged the government to adopt coordinated measures, including population management strategies through education, awareness campaigns, and family planning programs, alongside climate-resilient policies to mitigate environmental degradation.
\nHe also stressed promoting renewable energy, efficient water management, and green technologies, while ensuring equitable distribution of resources, expanding social safety nets, and fostering inclusive economic opportunities.
