Pakistan on Friday strongly rejected India\u2019s attempt to distort facts regarding recent remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, terming New Delhi\u2019s statements on Pakistan\u2019s nuclear record as \u201cbaseless, malicious, and part of a disinformation campaign.\u201d
\nResponding to a media query about the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson\u2019s comments linking President Trump\u2019s remarks on nuclear testing with Pakistan, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Tahir Andrabi, said that India was clearly misrepresenting the U.S. President\u2019s words.
\n\u201cThe U.S. side has already clarified its position to the media regarding the President\u2019s statements,\u201d he noted. \u201cFor the record, Pakistan\u2019s last nuclear tests were conducted in May 1998. Our position on nuclear testing is well established and consistent.\u201d
\nThe Spokesperson underscored Pakistan\u2019s support for United Nations General Assembly resolutions calling for a comprehensive ban on nuclear testing, contrasting it with India\u2019s \u201cambiguous and questionable intentions\u201d reflected in its repeated abstentions on such resolutions.
\nEmphasizing Pakistan\u2019s impeccable record in nuclear safety and non-proliferation, the Foreign Office reiterated that the country\u2019s nuclear program operates under a \u201crobust command and control structure\u201d with comprehensive export controls.
\n\u201cAllegations of clandestine or illegal nuclear activities are entirely baseless,\u201d Andrabi said. \u201cThey are part of India\u2019s deliberate effort to deflect international attention from its own irresponsible nuclear conduct.\u201d
\nHighlighting India\u2019s troubling record, he pointed to several incidents of theft and illicit trafficking of nuclear and radioactive materials within India. \u201cAs recently as last year, radioactive equipment from the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), including the highly radioactive substance Californium, valued at over USD 100 million, was found on sale in India,\u201d he said.
\nSuch repeated incidents, he warned, \u201cexpose serious deficiencies in India\u2019s ability to secure its nuclear facilities\u201d and suggest the existence of a \u201cthriving nuclear black market\u201d within the country.
