Romania\u2019s Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr Dan Stoenescu, met Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori on Wednesday to explore new avenues for strengthening bilateral ties, with a focus on trade, education, technology, and cultural collaboration.
\nDr Stoenescu noted that Romania and Pakistan share more than six decades of diplomatic relations and recalled Romania\u2019s role in Pakistan\u2019s industrial development, including support in establishing Karachi\u2019s oil refinery and several cement plants, according to a news release on Wednesday.
\nHe said Sindh\u2019s strategic location and Karachi Port offer an important gateway for expanding trade between South Asia and Europe via Romania\u2019s Port of Constanta and the Black Sea.
\nBoth sides discussed plans to increase bilateral trade from the current estimated USD 250 million to USD 1 billion. The ambassador encouraged businesses in Sindh to tap into Romania\u2019s duty-free access to the European Union under the GSP+ scheme, especially in textiles, agriculture, machinery, and renewable energy.
\nThe meeting also touched on opportunities in green energy, IT, and digital infrastructure. Dr Stoenescu proposed connecting Romanian tech firms and innovation hubs with National Incubation Centres in Sindh and shared that discussions were underway to explore establishing a Romanian university campus in Karachi focused on engineering, IT, and business studies. Both sides emphasized expanding scholarships, academic exchanges, and vocational training for students from Sindh.
\nTo commemorate the meeting, the ambassador planted a tree at the Governor\u2019s House. Adviser to the Governor Tariq Mustafa also presented the \u201cBell of Hope,\u201d a symbolic initiative launched to promote public welfare and accessibility.
\nGovernor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori welcomed Romania\u2019s proposals and expressed the provincial government\u2019s willingness to facilitate Romanian investment and academic partnerships. He also supported the idea of holding a Sindh investment roadshow in Bucharest and strengthening collaboration through the Pakistan\u2013Romania Business Council.
