The UN\u2019s top aid official Tom Fletcher Wednesday condemned repeated attacks on Palestinians seeking food in the Gaza Strip, saying the deaths are the result of \u201cdeliberate choices\u201d that have \u201csystemically\u201d deprived 2 million people of essentials.
\n\u201cThe world is watching, day after day, horrifying scenes of Palestinians being shot, wounded or killed in Gaza while simply trying to eat,\u201d Fletcher said in a statement. \u201cEmergency medical teams have confirmed treating hundreds of trauma cases.\u201d
\n\u201cYesterday alone, dozens were declared dead at hospitals after Israeli forces said they had opened fire,\u201d he noted.
\nStressing that \u201cthis is the outcome of a series of deliberate choices that have systematically deprived 2 million people of the essentials they need to survive,\u201d Fletcher echoed UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres\u2019 demand for \u201cimmediate, independent investigations.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThese are not isolated incidents, and the perpetrators must be held accountable,\u201d he said.
\nFletcher emphasized that \u201cno one should have to risk their life to feed their children.\u201d
\nCalling for urgent action, he demanded Israel open all border crossings and lift restrictions on humanitarian aid.
\n\u201cWe have the teams, the plan, the supplies and the experience,\u201d he said.
\n\u201cLet in life-saving aid at scale, from all directions. Lift the restrictions on what and how much aid we can bring in. Ensure our convoys aren\u2019t held up by delays and denials. Release the hostages. Implement the ceasefire.\u201d
