{"id":82000,"date":"2025-06-04T09:40:08","date_gmt":"2025-06-04T04:40:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nabanews.pk\/en\/?p=82000"},"modified":"2025-06-04T09:40:08","modified_gmt":"2025-06-04T04:40:08","slug":"pm-assures-cm-gandapur-of-addressing-kps-issues-with-seriousness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nabanews.pk\/en\/pm-assures-cm-gandapur-of-addressing-kps-issues-with-seriousness\/","title":{"rendered":"PM assures CM Gandapur of addressing KP\u2019s issues with \u2018seriousness\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CM Gandapur demands federal govt fulfill all promises made to people of merged tribal districts<br \/>\nPESHAWAR<br \/>\nPrime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday vowed to form a special committee to review and address the issues raised by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, saying that the federal government was committed to resolve the province\u2019s challenges with seriousness and urgency.<br \/>\nAddressing tribal jirga in Peshawar, the premier said that the committee would hold consultations with the KP chief minister, governor, and local elders to work through key provincial matters.<br \/>\n\u201cWe will sit together and seriously assess the concerns of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,\u201d he said, adding that the committee may also seek recommendations on whether some of these issues should be taken to the parliament.<br \/>\nThe KP government, being led by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, had been at odds with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz-led (PML-N) federal government over multiple issues, including terrorism.<br \/>\nPakistan has witnessed surge in terror incidents since Taliban rulers returned to Afghanistan in 2021, particularly in the bordering provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.<br \/>\nHowever, the first quarter of 2025 saw some promising trends in the security landscape of Pakistan, with the fatalities of militants and insurgents outnumbering the cumulative losses of civilians and security forces personnel.<br \/>\nIts key findings, issued by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) revealed notably fewer fatal losses among civilians and security forces personnel compared to the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2024 and a nearly 13% reduction in overall violence, The News reported.<br \/>\nDespite progress, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan remain epicentres of violence, accounting for 98% of all fatalities, with attacks growing bolder and militant tactics evolving, including the unprecedented hijacking of the Jaffar Express.<br \/>\nSpeaking at the jirga today, PM Shehbaz acknowledged the historic sacrifices of the people of KP and praised their unwavering patriotism, saying, \u201cThe people of KP have always raised the flag of Pakistan with pride.\u201d<br \/>\nHe called KP \u201ca beautiful and great province,\u201d adding that \u201cits people\u2019s sacrifices will be remembered in golden words in the country\u2019s history.\u201d<br \/>\nReferring to the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award, the premier stressed that a review was overdue after 15 years and announced that the first NFC-related meeting would be convened in August. \u201cThe 2010 NFC Award included terrorism-related financial support for KP,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nHe stated that various governments had provided KP with Rs700 billion over the years, emphasising the need to enhance police training and equipment. \u201cFunds allocated for the police are still being released,\u201d he added.<br \/>\nReferring to the CM Gandapur\u2019s additional demands, he said they would be evaluated through the committee.<br \/>\nSpeaking on national security, PM Shehbaz recalled India\u2019s unprovoked attacks on May 6 and 7 that claimed innocent lives. He said he was informed by the Field Marshal General Asim Munir that India had once again launched aggression, but Pakistan\u2019s military responded in a way that \u201cIndia will never forget.\u201d<br \/>\nHighlighting unity, the prime minister said the entire nation must come together to take bold decisions for Pakistan\u2019s future. \u201cWhen our homeland calls, our brave soldiers leave behind their children and head to the front lines,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nHe added that Pakistan\u2019s strength was also being recognised globally. \u201cAfter my recent visits to four countries, I can say the world is pleased with Pakistan\u2019s progress.\u201d<br \/>\nSpeaking of the water issues, PM Shehbaz said that India\u2019s threats to cut off water supplies highlighted the need for national-level decisions. \u201cWe will invite all four provinces to consult on how to expand our water storage capacity,\u201d he stated.<br \/>\nCM Gandapur urges Centre to fulfill pledges with tribal areas<br \/>\nSeparately, CM Gandapur \u2014 while addressing the jirga earlier \u2014 demanded that the federal government fulfill all promises made to the people of the merged tribal districts and ensure KP receives its rightful share in the NFC Award.<br \/>\nThe provincial chief executive said that political differences had been set aside for the sake of national unity, adding that the entire nation stood united for the country\u2019s defense and sovereignty.<br \/>\nCalling on the federal government to refrain from imposing taxes in the former Fata and Pata regions, Gandapur said, \u201cThe people of these areas are not in a financial position to pay taxes. These districts were severely affected by the war on terror and now require substantial investment.\u201d<br \/>\nHe urged that all commitments made to tribal communities be honoured and demanded immediate release of funds for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) from merged areas.
