PESHAWAR
\nUnder the banner of the Prime Minister\u2019s Youth Programme, the boxing trials for Peshawar Division commenced with great enthusiasm, attracting hundreds of aspiring boxers from across the region.
\nOrganized by the University of Haripur in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC), the trials were held at the Pakistan Sports Board Gymnasium in Peshawar.
\nYoung athletes from all districts of Peshawar Division, including a significant contingent from Nowshera, participated in the event. The trials were officially inaugurated by Pakistan Muslim League-N Peshawar President Arshad Mehmood Khan.
\nHe was accompanied by Prime Minister\u2019s Youth Programme Focal Person Masroor Afridi, Director Sports Islamia College University Muhammad Ali Hoti, Director Sports University of Haripur Dr. Syed Zia-ul-Islam, Assistant Professor Abdul Rashid Anwar, University of Haripur Boxing Coach Hasnain Amin, and officials from HEC including Owais Hazara and Rafiqat Ali Shah.
\nThe objective of the trials was to identify hidden talent from urban neighborhoods and rural areas and to provide promising boxers with opportunities to shine on national and international platforms. Dr. Syed Zia-ul-Islam ensured excellent arrangements for the event on behalf of the University of Haripur.
\nSpeaking at the opening ceremony, chief guest Arshad Mehmood Khan briefed the athletes in detail about the Prime Minister\u2019s Youth Programme.
\nHe stated that the government of Pakistan is taking concrete steps to bring youth into the national mainstream and polish their potential.
\nHe also announced that the second phase of the Talent Hunt Programme will be launched soon, which will cover athletics, hockey, boxing, and other sports to further discover and nurture young talent.
\nHe assured that the selected athletes would receive full support, including international-standard training and facilities.
\nOutstanding performers will be provided with boxing kits, track suits, accessories, and kit bags to enhance their skills and readiness for higher-level competitions.
\nA large number of local male and female athletes attended the opening ceremony, while spectators thoroughly enjoyed the thrilling boxing bouts.
