\nChief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur on Thursday presided over the first meeting of the provincial task force for anti-narcotics, said an official handout.
\nThe members of the cabinet including Mian Khaliqur Rehman, Faisal Tarakai, Syed Qasim Ali Shah, the Chief Secretary, Anti-Narcotics Force, police, and other relevant authorities attended the meeting.
\nThe forum reviews the provincial government steps taken for combating drug abuse and trafficking in the province.
\nChief Minister Gandapur accorded formal approval to include the rehabilitation of drug addicts in the health card scheme, instructing officials to prepare a case for approval by the provincial cabinet.
\nThe provincial government after formal approval from the cabinet will incorporate the drug rehabilitation centers into the health card panel, said the statement.
\nThe chair issued instructions to police to crack down on drug dealers across the province and directed the removal of police officers who fail to take effective action and called for a special meeting of the task force within the next fifteen days to review progress.
\nA plan was devised to encourage farmers to adopt alternative crops, with the formation of a committee to engage farmers and report to the Chief Minister.
\nAdditionally, the meeting emphasized institutionalizing the rehabilitation process for drug addicts, with clear responsibilities outlined for relevant courts and institutions.
\nThis proposal will be submitted to the provincial cabinet for final approval.
\nThe Chief Minister expressed strong disapproval of those involved in drug addiction and trafficking, emphasizing that there would be no forgiveness for those who destroy lives through drugs.
\nHe praised the ongoing rehabilitation program in Peshawar and urged the transfer of drug addicts from other districts to Peshawar\u2019s rehabilitation centers. Special measures for rehabilitating drug addicts imprisoned in jails were also discussed.
\nA detailed briefing was provided on the progress of the anti-narcotics operations under the Drug-Free Peshawar campaign, which has successfully closed several drug factories and destroyed large quantities of narcotics.
\nAwareness campaigns in educational institutions were highlighted, along with the rehabilitation of thousands of drug addicts.
