US President-elect Donald Trump said on Monday he is going to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin \u201cvery quickly\u201d after he takes office next week.
\nHe did not provide a timeline for the meeting, which would be the first between the leaders of the two countries since Russia\u2019s war with Ukraine started in February 2022.
\nWhen asked about his strategy to end the war, Trump told Newsmax: \u201cWell, there\u2019s only one strategy and it\u2019s up to Putin and I can\u2019t imagine he\u2019s too thrilled about the way it\u2019s gone because it hasn\u2019t gone exactly well for him either.
\n\u201cAnd I know he wants to meet and I\u2019m going to meet very quickly. I would\u2019ve done it sooner but…you have to get into the office. For some of the things, you do have to be there.\u201d
\nUS Congressman Mike Waltz, the incoming national security adviser, said on Sunday he expected a call between Trump and Putin in \u201cthe coming days and weeks.\u201d
